Who we are

The Liberation Brick is a labor of love and community. This is an ongoing and multifaceted project seeking to celebrate, build community with, and collect resources benefiting LGTBQ+ people. Our community is constantly made to feel like we don’t have a place in this world, and there are people working tirelessly to make sure that we don’t. If we are to survive we need to take some key lessons from the Stonewall Uprising and the Civil Rights Movement. More specifically, we need to lay bricks and build together, but also be ready to throw a brick in defiance if all else fails.

This project was initiated by Silvia Hammer (she/her/hers), a clinical psychology doctoral candidate studying at the University of Hartford. She is a transgender woman with a deep passion for supporting her community and knows the particular challenges that trans people face in healthcare settings and beyond. Silvia will continue to maintain this website, aided by information and resources provided by providers and people in the community, as it grows to hopefully help trans people find support and affirmative care across the country. Silvia is currently working as a psychologist serving primarily LGBTQ+ people, with a clinical focus on trauma, neurodiversity, and liberation. More long-term, Silvia hopes to one day open her own private practice that specializes in care for transgender people and the larger LGBTQIA+ community.
